Birla Institute of Technology and Science Aptitude Test (BITSAT) is an all-India entrance exam conducted for admission into the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) campuses which is one of the 6 Indian 'Institutes of Eminence' recognized by the Government of India in 2018.

This entrance test offers an opportunity to take admission in 3 prestigious institutes BITS Pilani, BITS Hyderabad and KK Birla Goa. BITS Pilani is the 1st Indian Institute to have a campus abroad i.e. BITS Dubai. The total number of seats available in this exam is 2500 and the total number of the candidate appearing for this exam lies in between 2 – 2.5 lacs.

Eligibility Criteria

For a candidate to be eligible to take BITSAT 2018, he must fulfil the following eligibility criteria.

  • Candidates must pass 10th and 12th from a recognized board.
  • Candidates must secure 75 percentage on an average in Physics, Chemistry and Math.
  • Candidate must secure more than 60 percentage individually in each subject.
  • If the candidate manages to top in central or state board then he/she is eligible for direct admission in BITS.
  • Candidates must not be a student of BITS already.
  • Candidate appearing in 2019 board Exam or have appeared in 2018 board exam are only eligible for appearing in 2019 BITSAT.

Exam Pattern

BITSAT has a fixed mode of examination i.e. the pattern of question paper does not change every year.

  • The examination is of the online format.
  • The examination is held in two slots of 2 hours each from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • There are 150 questions: 40 of Physics and Chemistry, 45 of Mathematics 15 of English and 10 of logical reasoning.
  • Questions will be of objective type.
  • Candidates will be awarded +3 on correct answers and -1 on an incorrect answer.
  • Marking Scheme for a total of 450 marks include
    • 120 marks for Physics and Chemistry respectively
    • 135 for Math
    • 45 for English Proficiency
    • 30 for Logical Reasoning
  • There are 12 extra questions 4 of each Physics, Chemistry and Math. These questions are supposed to be of JEE Advanced level.
    • Candidates can opt for these questions if and only if they have attempted the main 150 questions.
    • Candidates after opting these extra questions cannot go back to the main section.
    • Candidates are awarded +3 for every correct answer and a -1 for every incorrect answer.

  • Apply online by registering on the above site.
  • Complete the online registration by filling up of correct information and uploading your image and signature.
  • Note the unique application number before downloading the filled-up form.
  • Examination fee can be paid through credit, debit card, Paytm wallet or through Challan
  • Hall Tickets will be made available from the Second week of April to the First week of May.
  • Keeping the hall ticket is a must as it contains all the necessary details like name, centre, roll number.

Selection and Counselling

Candidate having more than or equal to cut off marks qualify JEE Main and then can appear for JEE Advance. The cut off is decided on the following criteria.

  • No. of students appearing for the exam.
  • The difficulty level of paper.
  • Overall candidate’s performance i.e. if many candidates manage to secure a higher number then the cut off is raised and vice-versa.

BITSAT seat allocation process involves filling up of online application and filling up of 12th Marks Details along with seat preference in 3 BIT Colleges.

  • Depending upon a candidate’s BITSAT score, seat availability and branch preferences, he will either be given a seat or be kept on the waitlist.
  • The courses offered in the 1st list may be upgraded in the second and third list.
  • To reserve a seat in BITSAT candidate must pay either admission fee or both admission fee and 1st-semester fee depending on if he/she is on waitlist or have got a seat during counselling
